Proverb: "A king's syncophant will soon break his pipe" also the importance of smooking in the ancient ewe society .
Some decades ago,the earthen tobacco pipe was used by both women and men. This smoking tradition was as old as the ewe society. This tradition includes tobacco sharing at religious and other ceremonies. But the introduction of cigarettes into the ewe society has virtually killed this tradition, but Ewe women don't smoke cigarettes. Nevertheless piper still form part of the designs in hand weaving.
